Welcome to the School of Graduate Studies admissions BLOG and our first “official” post on our BLOG. I wish to extend a welcome on behalf of Dr. William Smith who is the dean of the School of Graduate Studies. Under the leadership and guidance of Dean Smith the School of Graduate Studies at BSC is one of the four schools at BSC and works with graduate students to provide an academic program of excellence along with the faculty and staff of the college. Please make this a favorite if you would like and check in next week to read some thoughts on the admissions application.

    Dr. Guillette-
Are graduate school exams, GRE or GMAT required for all graduate schools?
I have seen some schools advertising that no exam is required. Are graduate degrees from a no exam school worth less than a degree from a school that requires an entrance exam?
How do I evaluate a grad school program when I am comparing schools?

    Dr. Guillette,
I am thinking of attending grad school and as I research schools, I see that some require an entrance exam, the GRE or GMAT and others do not. Is a grad program that does not require and entrance exam have less prestige or credibility? How do I know what scores I would need to be admitted? Are exam schools better than non-exam schools?

Hello JAZMAC – Thank you for your question regarding the GRE or GMAT tests for graduate school admission. Many colleges and universities require a GRE or GMAT as one of their admission criteria but there are many other colleges and universities that do not. I believe that there is no difference between colleges and universities based on whether or not they require a GRE or GMAT score. Many colleges and universities choose to replace the GRE or GMAT requirement with a writing sample or an interview. When doing your research for graduate schools please check out admission requirements and that is where you will find the minimum score they rwequire for a GRE or GMAT score.
      Best regards,

      Dr. Guillette
